How to Keep a Shagun Register at a Wedding (and Give Back Fairly)

Try the free Shagun RegisterNo download, works on your phone

A week after the wedding, a pile of envelopes and a list in someone's phone. A year later, an invitation from the same family and the question: what did they give us?

On the day

  • Give one trusted person the job of collecting envelopes and gifts.
  • Write the giver's name on the envelope before it goes into the bag.
  • Keep gifts and envelopes from different functions (sangeet, wedding, reception) separate.

The same night or next morning

Open envelopes with two family members and write each one down: name, relation, side, cash and any gift with its rough value. Do it before memories fade.

Thank-yous

A short call or WhatsApp message within two weeks is enough. Tick each one so nobody is missed and nobody gets two.

Giving back

Many families give back a little more than they received, ending in 1 (₹1,100, ₹2,100, ₹5,100). Note their family's next function and date so you are not caught off guard.

Do it on your phone, free

The free Shagun Register keeps every entry in your account: totals for cash and gifts, a thank-you tick and a download for Excel. It works together with the guest list, so names fill in as you type.

For a full offline register with a give-back planner (their functions sorted by date with a suggested amount) and a return-gift list, use the Shagun & Gift Register (Excel).
